How To Use This Site
Buying almost anything now means wading through review sites that rank by commission, forums with three contradictory answers, and "top 10 best" pages that clearly tested nothing.
WhatToGet is an attempt at the opposite: short, opinionated lists that say what a product is good at, what it gives up, and roughly what it costs. If a product has a known flaw, that flaw is in the description rather than left out.
Who writes it
WhatToGet is written and maintained by volunteers that make up a community of hobbyists who are genuinely interested in GOOD products. They reference published specifications, manufacturer documentation, personal experience, and/or reports from people who have owned the product for months rather than days.
The tiers
Where possible, things are marked in the following tiers:
Budget Entry level. Real compromises, clearly stated, but nothing here is junk — products that are simply bad do not make the list at all.
Mid The bracket most people should shop in. Best balance of price and capability.
Premium Top of the category. Worth it only if the specific advantage matters to you.
The star
⭐ marks a standout in its bracket — the one to buy if you do not want to read the rest of the list. Not every bracket has one. A star is never for sale.
How it pays for itself
Product links are affiliate links. If you buy through one we earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
No brand can pay for a place on a list, and no brand sees a list before it is published. Commission rates vary between products and play no part in what gets recommended or in what order.
